NTPS Aboriginal employee mentor program
The Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) Aboriginal Employee Mentor Program (AEMP) is a key initiative within the NTPS Aboriginal Employment and Career Development Strategy 2015-2020 .
The AEMP was launched in July 2019 and is a 12 month program designed to support the Mentee’s personal and professional goals by matching them with a suitable Mentor. The Mentors are Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal NTPS employees from middle management (AO5 or equivalent and above) trained and registered under the AEMP. The Mentees are Aboriginal NTPS employees from all classifications.
The Mentor will undertake a two day training workshop and the Mentee a one day training workshop prior to the commencement of the program to help prepare them for the AEMP mentoring journey. Upon completion of their training the Mentors and Mentees are invited to participate in a 'Meet and Greet' event to come together to meet face to face, get to know each other and undergo the Mentee-Mentor matching process.
The Aboriginal Employment and Career Development (AECD) Division is responsible for the coordination and administration of the AEMP, however the program is designed to be led by the Mentor and Mentee. This enables flexibility for the participants to work together to form an individual mentoring agreement which best suits them.
Applications for the Mentor workshops have closed and have already commenced with a series of workshops held in Darwin and Alice Springs throughout August and September. If you would like to be a Mentor, please email the AECD Division to be put on the waiting list for future workshops.
Applications are now open for the Mentee workshops, which is for all NTPS Aboriginal employees at any classification that would like to be assigned a Mentor and participate in the AEMP.
The Mentee workshops are scheduled as follows:
- Darwin: Friday 27 September (Nominations close: COB Friday 20 September)
- Darwin: Friday 18 October (Nominations close: COB Friday 4 October)
- Alice Springs: Thursday 10 and Friday 11 October (Nominations close: COB Friday 20 September). Please note this workshop includes the 'Meet and Greet' Event on Day 2.
