Bulletin 22 - Ballot outcome - issued 17 December 2021

I wish to advise the proposed Northern Territory Public Sector 2021 – 2025 Enterprise Agreement was approved by a majority of employees who voted in the ballot process.

The results of the ballot conducted by the NT Electoral Commission was as follows:

Next steps

Now that the Agreement has been approved by a majority of employees who voted, it is necessary to lodge the Agreement with the Fair Work Commission for approval.

This is a positive outcome as the Agreement provides significant improvements to terms and conditions of employment for employees.

Whilst the Northern Territory Public Sector 2021 – 2025 Enterprise Agreement will not come into effect until we receive the formal approval from the Fair Work Commission (FWC), I will use my powers under the Public Sector Employment and Management Act 1993 to enable employees to receive the benefit of 3 days paid Christmas Closedown leave for this year and the $4000 lump sum will be paid on pay day of 20 January 2022. All other improvements will be effective 7 days after the FWC approval.

This means, for this Christmas closedown in December 2021, employees still need to apply for leave during their closedown period. After the December/January period, payroll will make adjustments to recreation leave records (i.e. re-credit). Employees who work between 29 and 31 December 2021 can apply to use their Christmas closedown leave credits throughout the year. Christmas closedown leave credits must be taken before 24 December 2022.
