Improved offer

On 31 August 2022, I made an improved offer for a new agreement to the AEU-NT. Details of this offer can be found in bulletin 14.

The main features of the improved offer are:

  • The term of the Agreement to be 3 years (to expire in October 2024).
  • Two lump sum payments totalling $6,000 (to assist with immediate cost of living pressures):
    • $4,000 upon reaching agreement
    • $2,000 on the first pay period on or after 11 October 2023.
  • So that Northern Territory educator classifications remain competitive with other jurisdictions, a one-off adjustment of the classification structures for assistant teachers, classroom teachers, senior teachers and some principals (PLO1 to PLO3) - this adjustment would be paid effective from the date the new agreement is made (that is, when a majority of employees who cast a valid vote approve the proposed agreement).
  • Inclusion of matters in my previous offers, with the exception of the previously proposed changes to the electricity subsidy and Christmas closedown leave - this includes that if there are any changes to wages policy during the life of the agreement, net additional benefits would be passed on to educators.
  • Agreement to discuss during the life of enterprise agreement options regarding class sizes - non-contact times, and managing the administrative burdens on teachers.

If the majority of employees who vote, vote yes and the Fair Work Commission approve the agreement, it will replace the current agreement.
