Bulletin 23 - No agreement reached with the AEU-NT for a new enterprise agreement – issued 18 November 2022

No agreement reached with the AEU-NT for a new NTPS Non-Contract Principals, Teachers and Assistant Teachers’ 2021 - 2024 Enterprise Agreement (EA).

Despite good will and hard work on both sides of the bargaining table, I am disappointed to advise that I have been unable to reach in-principle agreement with the Australian Education Union for a new EA for non-contract principals, teachers and assistant teachers.

This means NTPS non-contract principals, teachers and assistant teachers are unlikely to win a pay rise before the end of the 2022 school year on 15 December 2022.

What would have been in the offer

The offer would have had the following features

  • a 3-year agreement starting from 11 October 2021
  • an increase to salaries and income-related allowances in excess of 2% per annum, backdated to October 2021
  • an additional hour of non-contact time for neophyte teachers from the start of 2023
  • a commitment to review teacher workloads especially in relation to their administrative loads
  • a commitment to review the duties of teachers and assistant teachers in homeland centres
  • inclusion of other agreed improvements as offered in the NTPS 2021—2024 EA (information about these can be found on the enterprise agreement website).

Next steps

Barring a last minute ‘in-principle’ agreement being reached I would not be able undertake all the statutory processes that are required in time to conduct a ballot of employees before the end of the school year.
