Recognition of Service Milestones for NTPS Employees

The Recognition of service milestones initiative aims to formally recognise and reward employees for the years of service they have provided to the Northern Territory Government. The Office of the Commissioner for Public Employment (OCPE) has developed a Guide to promote sector-wide consistency in acknowledging those who have been employed in the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) for an extended period.

Official recognition of service should occur at the 10, 20, 30, 35, 40+ and 50+ milestones. Agencies are responsible for recognising service at all milestones.

Depending on the milestone achieved, there will be two ways in which employees can be recognised for their continuous service to the NTPS.

Milestones less than 30 years are to be recognised internally by the employing agency.

Employees that have achieved service milestones of 30, 35 and 40+ years of service (within the previous financial year) will be invited to attend a ministerially hosted function. There are two whole-of-sector recognition of service functions held each year. One function is held in Darwin and one in Alice Springs. The whole-of-sector ‘Recognising service milestones’ functions are arranged by Protocol NT (Department of the Chief Minister) in collaboration with OCPE and are hosted by the Chief Minister and the Minister for Public Employment, or their delegates.

Employees who have achieved 50+ years of service are invited to be recognised at the annual Chief Minister's Awards for Excellence in the Public Sector.
