COVID-19 update - 18 December 2020

Be COVID safe during the Christmas break

As many of you would already know, the Chief Health Officer has declared the Northern Beaches Council Local Government Area (LGA) in NSW as a hotspot for the purposes of travel to the Northern Territory, effective at 12.01am, 18 December 2020.

This follows on from an outbreak of COVID-19 that occurred in the Northern Beaches of Sydney and has grown to a significant number of positive cases.

Anyone arriving in the Northern Territory from the Northern Beaches Council LGA or any other declared hotspot will need to undertake 14 days of mandatory supervised quarantine in either Alice Springs or Darwin. You will be required to meet the costs of quarantine (currently $2,500 per person) and you will need to use your own recreation or long-service leave for the duration. If you do not have sufficient leave entitlements then you will be required to take leave without pay.

Anyone who arrived in the Northern Territory from the Northern Beaches Council LGA on or after the 11 December 2020 needs to arrange for a COVID-19 test and self-quarantine while awaiting the test results. Please contact the COVID-19 hotline 1800 008 002 and identify yourself as a person who has been in an area that has been declared a hotspot since you arrived in the NT.

If you are intending to travel to an active hotspot you are strongly advised to rethink your plans.

If you are travelling over the holiday period please wear a mask especially if on a plane. At all times, even when not travelling, ensure you practice high levels of personal hygiene and physical distancing.

Please be mindful that, similar to the most recent declaration, COVID-19 hotspots may be declared at short notice. If you are required to quarantine, as a result of a declaration, you will bear the quarantine costs and need to use recreation, long service leave or, if you have insufficient leave, take leave without pay while in quarantine.
