Staffing numbers

Northern Territory Government publishes information on the number of staff employed by the NT Public Sector each quarter going back as far as 2002.

For access to historical staffing levels and to more detailed descriptions of the sector, refer to the 'Personnel Statistics' or 'Statistical Supplement' sections of previous Annual Reports.

The reporting format for the quarterly staffing reports has been updated, including for previously published reports for the June 2019 quarter. The new reporting format removes the quarterly historical data and retains the annual comparisons, which improve readability and comparing the yearly change smooths out seasonal fluctuations (e.g. bulk recruitment, school terms/holidays and graduate cycles). The Department of Corporate and Information Services (DCIS) Machinery of Government change to centralise corporate services occurred during 2019 resulting in the transfer of corporate staff from agencies to DCIS. When this movement is reflected in FTE reporting it restricts the readers ability to identify individual agency FTE variations. A back casting estimate has therefore been applied to historical (annual data) in the newly published reports to resolve this issue. This allows the reader to examine a more accurate representation of yearly change to FTE by agency and to enable comparability over the years.
