Taking care of business

Fiona Hicks

Local businesses have had access to extra support and information during COVID-19 – thanks in part to the work of people like Fiona Hicks, a project officer with Investment Territory in DTBI. Fiona was part of the initial response team within DTBI that set out to engage with local businesses to ensure they were ready for the shutdown of stage one.

“I actually felt like I was making a difference to the public by listening to their needs and ensuring they were aware of all the support packages on offer,” Fiona said.

“Overall DTBI as a team collaborated and delivered everything we could do to service the Territory in a time of crisis.”

Fiona was proud of the way her colleagues got on with job despite the uncertainty.

“We adapted to the public’s needs and requirements in a time of crisis,” she said.

“Being a public servant we always strive to be ambassadors by doing the right thing although it was a shame to see some in the community not taking  the pandemic seriously.”

However, she feels that Territorians are resilient.

“We adapt to change quickly to suit the circumstances and we help each other out when things are tough.”

Fiona predicts some changes will remain: “The way we interact with our international counterparts is already so different and will be in the future,” she said.
