Working in the NTPS
The Northern Territory Government provides services to all Territorians. There are varied NT Government careers in a range of fields, disciplines and industries providing a stimulating work environment.
The Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS), as the largest single employer within the Northern Territory, is responsible for providing services to the community including hospital care, education, public transport, electricity, water provision, and public libraries to name a few.
Our workplaces vary from regional and remote locations such as Yuendumu and Ntaria to urban centres such as Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine.
As a public sector employee you can enjoy a range of employee benefits - from attractive salaries and flexible leave arrangements to training and development opportunities.
The Territory is a place where you can work in the most remote parts of Australia whilst gaining exposure to working with Indigenous people of the Northern Territory, who make up 30% of our population.
As the statutory employer for all Northern Territory Public Servants the Commissioner's principal functions are to provide leadership and promote the development and observance of the highest possible standards of human resource management practices within the NTPS, including recruitment.
Under section 13 of the Public Sector Employment and Management Act (PSEMA), the Commissioner fulfils the role of employer by establishing policy and practice frameworks for the management of all public sector employees.
