Bulletin 22 - ballot outcome - issued 29 June 2026
Ballot outcome
I wish to advise the proposed Correctional Officer (NTPS) 2025 – 2029 Enterprise Agreement was not approved by the majority of employees who voted in the ballot process.
The outcome is disappointing given the offer aligned in full to the recommendation handed down by the Fair Work Commission as part of the s240 process, and included a number of improvements to employee terms and conditions which were noted by Commissioner Riordan to be ‘a good deal’.
The results of the ballot conducted by Vero Voting was as follows:
| Number of votes | |
|---|---|
| Yes | 40 |
| No | 564 |
| Total | 604 (76.8% of eligible voters) |
Next steps
The offer contained significant improvements to the terms and conditions for correctional officers which followed constructive and productive discussions with the United Workers Union and its delegates before the Fair Work Commission.
With all avenues exhausted to achieve agreement, I am considering an application for an intractable bargaining declaration under s235 of the Fair Work Act 2009.
