Bulletin 4 - negotiations update - issued on the 13 October 2025
Negotiations update
Negotiations for the new NTPS Fire and Rescue Service Enterprise Agreement are progressing, with weekly meetings being held between the United Workers Union (UWU), workplace delegates, representatives from the Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) and my office.
Since bargaining commenced, approximately 44 union claims have been received. The parties have worked constructively through these claims with a shared focus on ensuring workplace conditions continue to support a capable, committed and sustainable workforce.
Throughout the bargaining process, representatives from my office have been clear and consistent about the parameters of the NTPS Wages Policy, which allows for a total cost of up to 3% per annum. Any increases above this amount must be funded by real, bankable productivity or efficiency offsets.
Each of the union’s claims has been carefully assessed against the NTPS Wages Policy. Where possible, we are exploring efficiency measures that could help achieve improved outcomes, while ensuring any proposals remain financially responsible and sustainable into the future.
My office remains committed to engage regularly and constructively with the UWU and workplace delegates to progress discussions. The aim is to reach an agreement that recognises the valuable work of NTFRS employees while remaining consistent with the NTPS Wages Policy and broader government commitments.
As discussions continue, we encourage everyone involved to engage in a constructive and professional manner, with a shared focus on achieving positive outcomes for employees and the community.
The contribution of every NTFRS employee is valued, and we remain focused on achieving outcomes that reflect both operational realities and the vital role you play in keeping our communities safe.
Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to delivering high-quality emergency and rescue services to the people of the Northern Territory.
