Aboriginal employment in the NTPS
The Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) needs a workforce that reflects the community it serves. Aboriginal people make up over 30% of the Northern Territory population.
Not only will an increase in the representation of Aboriginal Australians improve the way the NTPS delivers services, employment opportunities are significant given it is one of the largest employers in the Territory.
The NTPS has set a global target of working towards 16% Aboriginal employment sector wide and 10% participation in senior or executive roles by 2020.
The Aboriginal Employment and Career Development Strategy 2015 – 2020 was reviewed in 2018 and a refreshed Strategy was published in June 2019. The refreshed Strategy provided the opportunity to reflect on the achievements, process and programs developed since the Strategy commenced in 2015, with the continued objective to increase and retain Aboriginal employment, participation and capability at all levels across the NTPS.
