Aboriginal employment in the NTPS

The Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) needs a workforce that reflects the community it serves. Aboriginal people make up over 30% of the Northern Territory population. 

The NTPS has set a global target of 16% Aboriginal employment sector wide and 10% participation in senior or executive roles by 2020.

The Indigenous Employment and Career Development Strategy 2015 – 2020 (5.3 mb) outlines a range of programs and initiatives designed to grow the NTPS Aboriginal workforce.

Not only will an increase in the representation of Aboriginal Australians improve the way the NTPS delivers services, employment opportunities are significant given it is one of the largest employers in the Territory.

The Office of the Commissioner for Public Employment (OCPE) developed the Aboriginal Employment Portal to provide more information on Aboriginal employment and career development in the NTPS.
