I am an infectious diseases physician at Royal Darwin Hospital, and Professor in Medicine at the Northern Territory Medical Program, Charles Darwin and Flinders Universities. I lead the Tropical and Emerging Infectious Diseases team of the Global and Tropical Health Division at Menzies School of Health Research.

I am Director of the NHMRC-funded Tropical Disease Research Regional Collaboration Initiative (HOT NORTH). I was formerly Director of Infectious Diseases at Royal Darwin Hospital and formerly Director of RHD Australia, the National Support Unit for Australia’s Rheumatic Fever Strategy.

I am a member of the National COVID-19 Health and Research Advisory Committee and the Technical Reference Group for the Australian Government’s Regional Health Security Initiative. I am also Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee of CREID and Chair of the Expert Reference Panel of APPRISE.

I began both the Darwin Prospective Melioidosis Study, and the Darwin Prospective Snakebite Study 31 years ago, and both continue.
