Jason Bonson

Department of Health

I am a highly respected, loyal and experienced public servant with 30+years’ experience working in the NT public sector. A vibrant career across non-profits and government.

Currently working in the TEHS Aboriginal Health Executive leadership team as a senior Project Officer.

I have held senior managers positons such as Director Men’s Office of Men’s Policy, Program Leader Men’s Health (NT DoH), Manager Indigenous Workforce Development (TF) and Manager, Planning and Partnerships (Dept. of Education).

A career highlight for me was to Lead and manage the Office of Men’s Policy (DLGHCD), driving the development and implementation of a Policy Framework for Northern Territory Men, and, to develop and implement innovative policy, strategic and program initiatives to support the wellbeing and engagement that advance the wellbeing of Northern Territory men.

Another was to be an inaugural graduate of the ‘Kigaruk’ Aboriginal men’s Leadership program in 2003.

My achievements are long from working both locally, and nationally across a broad domain, but notably in Male Health. Also includes Aboriginal Health, Public Health, Health Promotion, Aboriginal Workforce Development, Remote health, and Primary Health Care sectors and even Fisheries. It all started in mid-1988 when completing and Administration course with DOLAS with 6 weeks in ‘the office’ training course, followed a 12week placement at NT Department of Health and Community Services. Becoming a permanent NTG employee in February 1989 commencing as a receptionist, progressing through as a courier, transport office, travel and purchasing officer, then into remote work in Aboriginal health promotion.

However, nothing beats being a Dad to our daughter Ocean.
