Natasha Anne Cercarelli

I have proudly served the NT community for over 33 years. As one of the NTG’s first few women in the civil engineering profession, I began as a trainee at Transport and Works (T&W). I was one of two female students pursuing an Associate Diploma in Civil Engineering at Northern Territory University. I have fond memories of classes and work, and the environment was friendly and supportive.

Growing up I was always technically minded, so I began my career at T&W as a designer and drafter in the bridge, structural, road, and hydraulic branches before moving on to Darwin City Council as the senior civil designer. It wasn't long before I craved larger government projects and returned to the Department of Infrastructure (formerly T&W) to work on a variety of hydraulic capital and minor works projects, as well as remote subdivisions. It was a privilege to visit communities. I accumulated many years of work experience that were critical, at the time, for advancement in the public sector.

Since I had specialised in hydraulics, I was eager to work for the Power and Water Corporation, taking on responsibilities of project reviewer and approver. I managed to balance work, family, and studies while earning a Master of Infrastructure Engineering and Management. Later in my career I joined the Land Development Corporation as development manager to deliver strategic land for the NT. It’s a role that I have long strived for, am proud of, and that continues to bring me immense joy.
