Donna Hurst
Department of Corporate and Digital Development
Donna Hurst started work in the Public Service in 1968 as a Telex Operator working for what was then known as Commonwealth Railways.
For those of you wondering what a Telex is, a Telex is a precursor to the fax machine where an operator had to physically type a message up on a machine that looked like a typewriter. This message is then sent to another Telex machine via a phone line which would slowly print the message, similar to receiving a fax.
For those of you who don’t know what a fax machine is, a fax machine allows you to scan in a document at one location and send the scanned page to another fax machine which prints it out.
In her 50 years of public service, Donna has worked for:
- Railways
- Housing Commission
- Payroll
- Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory
- Transport and Works, Attorney Generals
- Department of Corporate and Information Services
- Health and Families
- Business and Employment
- Health
- Department of Corporate and Digital Development.
Her achievements include managing the transfer and merger of 40 pay teams from across the Northern Territory Government into the one agency to create what we now know as Payroll.
She developed operating procedures for the administration of Executive Contract Officers and created the ‘Lunchtime Learning’ program.
Donna developed and delivered training packages for Merit Selection, Performance Management, and Exit Interviews.
Donna has dedicated her career to the Public Service and to improving Human Resources.
To this day you can still go visit Donna at Manunda Place where she will be working away as a Workforce Services Officer at DCDD.
Donna thank you for 50 years.
