Suzanne Burgess
Department of Education
I am a Territorian who has been through the government education system from preschool through to completing a Diploma and Bachelor of Education from Charles Darwin University. I have had a wonderfully rewarding career in education.
I started as a classroom teacher in 1989 at Wanguri Primary School where I had attended as a student for the last 4 years of my primary school education. In 1999 I moved to Alice Springs and was privileged to have worked in a range of school-based and corporate-based roles such as early childhood and primary years teacher, senior teacher, numeracy project officer, manager visible learning, assistant principal and principal.
I was the recipient of the Primary Teacher of the Year Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards in 2013.
In 2016 my colleague and I presented at a conference in Auckland, New Zealand on the Collaborative Impact Visible Learning project which showcased the work across 51 central Australian schools.
As principal of Ross Park Primary School, I led with the idea that the joy of teaching (and leading) was seeing the children learn.
In my role within Teaching and Learning Services in Darwin I get to work with leaders across the territory to support teachers in delivering quality learning programs for all young Territorians so they can grow and achieve their goals and dreams.
