Ying Hoffmann

Department of Corporate and Digital Development

Ying knew she had a lot of catching up to do when she migrated to Australia 37 years ago. Her Bachelor of Science (Honours) wasn't recognised in Australia, and her first job as a Roulette dealer at Diamond Beach Casino wasn't her dream job. This led her to pursue a formal qualification with Northern Territory (NT) University (now Charles Darwin University (CDU)). In her final year of study, she secured a vacation job with NT Treasury. Later that year, she accepted a position as a data entry clerk (AO1) while transitioning to part-time study. After completing her Bachelor of Economics, she became a graduate trainee, still with NT Treasury.

Subsequently, she became a tax investigator with NT Treasury. As her experience grew, she sought out more challenging opportunities, eventually becoming a gaming analyst with the NT Racing and Gaming Authority. During her almost 10-year tenure there, she completed a Master in Professional Accounting with CDU. Following this, she moved to the Department of Justice as a project officer for a couple of years before ultimately taking on the role of business manager (SAO1) at NT Fleet where she could apply her knowledge and experience in accounting and finance.

Currently, Ying serves as the budgets and finance manager at the Department of Corporate and Digital Development’s Finance and Asset Services. She considers it a great privilege to work for the NT Government and to have served the Territory for 30 years. Her aim is to continue contributing until her retirement.

She is happily married to Arthur Hoffmann and they have a son, Samuel Kyaw.
