Ellen Reisinger

Ellen Reisinger commenced in January 1987 with the Department of Transport and Works Training and Development Unit as part of a stellar Traineeship program. The Traineeship program and subsequent employment opportunities saw Ellen work in numerous libraries across the Northern Territory (NT) Government, including the Law library, City of Darwin public libraries; working in buildings such as Brennan Building that no longer exist.

In 1990 she won a permanent position in the State Library of the Northern Territory; a position originally as music technician for the State Library’s music collection (which later transferred to CDU) and finally in Reference Services as the reference technician.

Ellen assisted with the transfer of the collection from Cavenagh Street, into Parliament House and had the opportunity to have a hard-hat tour of the under-construction Parliament House. During this time she was the chair of the Library Technician Association (NT Branch) and represented NT Government at a national conference in Sydney, speaking on the changes in employment conditions for library technicians in the NTPS. She also obtain her Degree in Library and information Management, where Ellen had the opportunity to live in Melbourne and work at Victorian Parliamentary Library.

In 1997, Ellen took up an opportunities to explore different roles, including public relations officer with Power and Water Authority, help desk technician with Department of Corporate and Information Services (DCIS) before the outsourcing of ICT services, IT support in a large high school with the Department of Education, information manager in the Office for the Commissioner of Public Employment, web administrator for DCIS, and project officer and web administrator for Department of Housing, Local Government and Sport.

In 2011, she commenced working for the eLearning Unit, Learning and Development, Department of Health. Initially as a project trainer and communications officer, later as systems administrator and trainer, and then finally as multimedia designer and trainer.

In 2013 the eLearning team, which consisted of the director of Learning and Development and 3 staff, won the Chief Minister’s Awards for Excellence in the Public Sector - Delivering Quality Education to Territorians category - Department of Health eLearning Strategy. Recognition for the development and rollout of the Department of Health and Territory Families, MyLearning Learning Management System (LMS). The first LMS in the NT Government to administer and deliver essential training and professional development for NT Government employees. In 2019, Ellen and her colleagues, and the MyLearning LMS was transferred over to the Department of Corporate and Digital Development (DCDD) Digital Learning and Innovation.

In early 2023, Ellen won a position as the manager in DCDD Information Management Services, Training and Development. Through the course of her employment with NT Government she has obtained a Degree in Library and information management, a Diploma in Leadership, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and Advanced Certificate in IT. She has also worked as a university lecturer in project management as well as an ABS Census team leader.

After work hours, Ellen has enjoyed volunteering on various committees and, when able, working as a sports trainer. Ellen met her husband, Oliver, a few months before as she commenced with the NT Government in 1987, and together they have 4 children that were born and raised in the Territory. Although born in the rural and remote town of Dirranbandi, Ellen is a proud Territorian and public servant.
