Michael Potts

Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services

I have worked in Darwin, Jabiru and Alice Springs. During my policing career I have had the opportunity to devote over 10 years in the crash investigation area. There are not too many things that I have not seen or experienced in that time when it comes to crashes. I will always remember one on my most notable investigations, the 1994 Cannonball Run multiple fatal crash south of Alice Springs.

I have lived and worked in Alice Springs since 1998 and have worked in numerous areas of policing in this period.

As I near retirement at the end of this year, I know I will have many fond memories of the communities that I have served. As a search and rescue mission coordinator I look back on the countless hours I have devoted to looking for persons lost in the vastness of the Territory. This task is often rewarding when find missing persons and returning them back to family, friends and loved ones, but equally it can be physically and emotionally draining when the outcome is different.

It has been an honour to have served the community of the Northern Territory and the memories and friendships I have made along the way I will cherish forever.
