Narelle Craufurd

Department of Education

My name is Narelle Craufurd, I arrived in Darwin in September 1985 from Sydney to work at the Royal Darwin Hospital. I commenced on the orthopaedic and spinal ward. In 1987, I was selected into the Midwifery program and graduated in 1988. I worked in the midwifery and neonatal area.

I commenced in community health at the old Darwin Central Clinic on Mitchell Street in 1989. I worked with many of the old Darwin families, learning a great deal about our area. I worked in many of the community health centres including Berrimah, Nightcliff, Casuarina and Palmerston covering all areas of child health, primary health care and palliative care.

I was fortunate to have many strong mentors who provided knowledge and support growing my nursing experience. Having a passion for health promotion I moved into schools becoming a health promoting school nurse in 2006 and am still working in this area to date. Health promotion and education work hand-in-hand, providing young people with the knowledge and strength to make positive choices in their lives.

My nursing experience in the NT has been wide and varied providing experiences that I'm very fortunate to have gained.
