Mark Ramjan
Department of Health
I first came to work with the NT Department of Health in January 1986, working at Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) as a remote area nurse.
I left Gunbalanya in December 1990 to return to Sydney, to be closer to family, but was drawn back to the NT in October 1993 to work as a remote area nurse at Wugularr (Beswick). It was the Aboriginal Health Workers and Aboriginal Community Workers in all of the communities that I have worked who guided me culturally and clinically, and I'm forever grateful for their friendship, leadership and mentoring, and this has kept me focused on working in Indigenous health.
Since then, I have had many great opportunities, working on the Tiwi Islands, Wadeye, Aboriginal Health Worker training, remote educator, working with the Health Minister as a Ministerial Liaison Officer, Project Manager managing many varied projects, and am currently working as Nurse Midwife Education and Research Consultant with Top End Population and Primary Health Care.
