Robin grew up in Alice Springs and served a 4 year apprenticeship as a systems electrician between 1983-1987 with various agencies in the NT Government. He transferred to Tennant Creek in 1987 to work with Power and Water Authority as a junior electrical inspector, power station and distribution electrician and also worked as an Aboriginal Essential Services officer. Following a transfer to Darwin in 1995 as an electrical inspector he transferred to NT WorkSafe in 2007, and now heads up the Electrical Safety Unit.
