Ageing workforce

The Commissioner for Public Employment is committed to making the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) representative of the communities we serve by driving improvements through an inclusion and diversity initiative.

This information and resources have been developed to assist staff, managers and teams to adapt to the changing workforce demographics.

The framework

The ageing workforce framework builds on the NTPS Workforce Strategy 2021-2026 to:

  • support a sustainable workforce with the capacity and capability to deliver services to the NT community
  • meet the priorities and expectations of government, now and into the future.

The framework falls within the NTPS inclusion and diversity initiative with a focus on:

  • transition to retirement
  • entering/remaining in the workforce
  • multi-generational workforce programs.

The policy framework will focus on the following 4 areas.

Workplace culture and leadership

Build an inclusive workplace.

Workplace design

Provide information and systems that support diverse attraction and retention practices.

Workplace conditions

Flexible work arrangements for older workers skills acquisition and late career development.

Training, information and resources

Provide a consolidated resource pool to assist employees and managers in:

  • considering options for pre-retirement work arrangements
  • financial health and wellbeing resources
  • templates and links.

If you work for the Northern Territory Government, go to NTG Central and search for ‘inclusion and diversity’.
