Medical practitioner guidelines
The Commissioner for Public Employment approves the following to conduct medical assessments:
- all health practitioners who have a right of practice under the Health Practitioners Act 2004
- any other person registered under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law to practice as a health professional
- excluding students.
This approval is provided under the Northern Territory Public Sector employment provisions.
The role of the NT medical advisor
The NT medical advisor co-ordinates and reviews medical reports and diagnoses provided by approved health practitioners (AHPs).
Their role is to ensure they meet necessary administrative standards, particularly superannuation benefit applications.
Medical assessments are done by AHPs for:
- entry employment
- fitness for continued duty or resumption of duty
- medical incapacity (invalidity retirement).
