For all CMC tenancies, excluding NT House and including those in regional centres, CMC will consider opportunities for similar employee accessibility strategies as part of any future building modifications and capital upgrades.

Champion disability initiatives in the agency by management and employees, including through staff stand-ups and other promotional activities such as recognising International Day of People with Disability on 3 December each year.

These initiatives will seek to celebrate the diverse and unique skills and talents of people with disability within the agency, or other role models across the NTPS and the Northern Territory.

Number of events/activities to champion disability initiatives in the workplace with a focus on a culture of employability.

Consider strategies for sustainable employment pathways which:

  • reflect a shared understanding of all forms of disability
  • champion and encourage disability practices and opportunities in the workplace
  • build an agency culture of employability for the diverse range of people with a disability
Work with managers, DCDD shared HR services and other disability partners to embed disability employability strategies within departmental business plans and recruitment practices – as measured by diversity indicators in divisional business planning.

  • 31 managers and staff members from CMC have completed the Disability Confident Managers training modules.
  • Actively promoting the EmployAbility traineeship on MyCM&C as part of the Early Careers Program.
  • Promoted the launch of the Northern Territory Disability Strategy on MyCM&C.
  • Big Rivers Government Centre official opening and refurbishment handover has been finalised in July 2023 with the office has been designed to be fully compliant under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and all Australian Standards, including, lifts, mobility counters and unisex accessible toilets.
  • CMC’s Barkly Regional Office is relocating to the Barkly Business Hub in July 2023 with the building to have disability accessible toilets, mobility counters and lift access.
  • As stated in the department's 2018-19 Annual Report, 1.8% of CMC employees identify as having a disability.
  • CMC funded National Disability Services (NT branch) to develop the Human Services Industry Plan for the sector. The 10-year plan identifies short, medium and long term initiatives that the sector wishes to achieve.
  • CMC jointly led negotiations to secure the Northern Territory’s Bilateral Agreement for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, which provides whole of Territory disability supports and integrated planning for eligible participants. Supporting people through improved choice and control, the NDIS includes a key focus on employment and workforce development.
  • NT House accessibility modifications made in compliance with Australian Standards (AS1428.1-2099). Designed for access and mobility, the standard specifies the design requirements for new building work, as required by the Building Code of Australia (BCA) including access for people with disabilities
